nullable: true, editable: true, defaultValue: null, length: 255, alias: Program Open Space Project Submission Form
Garrett County is requesting project submissions from municipalities and qualified organizations for consideration under the
Program Open Space (POS) program.
Each fiscal year, the Garrett County Board of Commissioners evaluates and selects projects for submission to the State based on the County's allocation of POS funding. This form is intended to collect consistent information on proposed projects to support that evaluation process.
Program Open Space funding is primarily intended for the development and improvement of public outdoor recreation areas.
Eligible project types typically include:
Parks, trails, and trailheads
Playgrounds and athletic courts/fields
Picnic areas, pavilions, and support amenities
Waterfront access and related improvements
Site-related infrastructure such as parking, lighting, and ADA accessibility
Note: POS funding is generally limited to outdoor recreation uses and does not typically support building demolition or indoor facility construction.
Applicants are encouraged to submit projects that are feasible, well-defined, and aligned with local and County recreation priorities. Conceptual or longer-term ideas are also welcome and may help inform future phasing, partnership opportunities, or alternative funding strategies.
Submission of a project does not guarantee funding. All proposals will be reviewed and prioritized by the County Commissioners based on eligibility, readiness, community benefit, and available funding.
